THE REALITY SHOW I'D LIKE TO SEE. Chris Lawrence invites readers to fisk a foolish column by Eugene Hickok, who makes a number of statements I wish to deal with at greater length in a longer essay. For the moment, read Chris's post and contemplate this canard.
Faculty members typically spend fewer than 200 hours a year in the classroom. That amounts to just five 40-hour weeks.
Evidently my carping about people measuring inputs fails to make an impression.

Perhaps I must play madder music. Answer me this: why isn't there a reality show titled Who Wants to Marry a Ph.D? You'd think that casting would be able to identify gold-diggers willing to feign an interest in Proust or obscure varietals to land someone as overpaid and underworked as columns like Mr Hickok's suggest populate the ranks of the professoriate.

For the fisking, vaminos a La Profesora Abstraida.
