A BETTER DESIGN FOR A FRONT PORCH. Despite semester-end deadlines and the continuing expansion of the police blotter, I made time this evening to catch the Vermeer Quartet's second recital of the semester. It appears as though, for their final season, they are making an effort to highlight other musicians in Northern Illinois's well-regarded music program. Tonight, steelpan virtuoso Liam Teague joined the quartet to perform Cadences by Deborah Fischer Teason (who has a Cold Spring Shops of her own!) The steelpan isn't just for Carnival cruises any more! Also on the program, Schubert's Quartetsatz in c, D. 703 and Beethoven's op. 132 in a, which is apparently not in my collection.
