DON'T GO WEST. The Lincoln Highway might be easier to use in the winter than the Moscow-Yakutsk anytime, but it's still subject to extreme weather.

There were no serious injuries in the six to eight accidents that had occurred by about 8:30 a.m. today on Route 38 west of Kishwaukee College and on Route 64 between about Glidden and McQueen roads, Chief Deputy Kevin Hickey said.

Sections of Route 64 were closed between about 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. due to four or five accidents, he said. Two or three accidents were reported on Route 38 as well. Closing the roads gave emergency personnel room to work.

“It's definitely a strategy for officer safety,” he said.

There are snow days when we're isolated from the rest of the world, but we manage.
