TOUGH TIMES AT HAMILTON HIGH. I recently received information about this year's alumni scholarship winners. Today comes news of a security system cut in a bit too late.

A new $50,000 airport-quality metal detector made its debut at Hamilton High School this morning, but it was used only on students tardy to class while school officials learned to use the new equipment.

Police said a 16-year-old girl stabbed a fellow student multiple times inside a bathroom this morning at the school, 6215 W. Warnimont Ave.

What was once a random spot-check will become routine at the onetime flagship high school of the Milwaukee system, and now a place where potential academic achievers coexist with a dropout factory.
