IT USED TO BE BY GEOGRAPHY. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association now seeds its basketball tournaments. In some of the sectionals, the usual suspects emerge, e.g. Eau Claire Memorial, where the Bennett brothers got their coaching start, is still among the strong teams in the Marshfield sectional (north of the Milwaukee Road all the way to Canada), and Oshkosh North and onetime tournament regular Neenah still show up in the Oshkosh sectional. The north side of Milwaukee still provides a tough field (historically, Rufus King, banned this year, North Division, Milwaukee Lincoln, and Milwaukee Washington had to joust for one Madison slot out of this sectional). It's now the Al McGuire Sectional, and with the merger of the independent schools, Milwaukee Marquette High is among the favorites. Milwaukee Hamilton rates a 2-seed, which means the traditional game against Pulaski followed by the winner of the Bay View - South Division game is so much history.
