GENERAL ZAROFF IN SPACE. I toyed with making, but didn't make time, to catch the latest Predators when it first played the area. My hunch about the movie was correct, however.
Yes, the latest (fourth!) sequel to 1987's "Alien" knockoff "Predator" is also the umpteenth version of the Richard Connell story "The Most Dangerous Game," which was first filmed back in 1932, starring Joel McCrea and a young actress named Fay Wray, shortly before her famous run-in with a large ape.
Further research discovers that Ms Wray and some of the other cast of King Kong were simultaneously producing The Most Dangerous Game. Economies of scope and sharable inputs exist, even though those terms didn't become current in economics until the late 1970s. Movie producers taking liberties with the print version of the story is also an old phenomenon.
