Officials said the new Transbay Transit Center was expected to serve 45 million passengers annually and house nine transportation systems, including the state's high-speed rail line and bus lines from San Francisco Municipal Railway, AC Transit, SamTrans, Golden Gate Transit and Greyhound. The bus ramps in the current configuration of the existing terminal once carried tracks. Sacramento Northern interurbans, Key System rapid-transit cars, and Southern Pacific multiple units used those ramps, and the lower level of the Bay Bridge, to reach inland cities. Will the design of the new station permit such construction should a high-speed line to Sacramento or onward to Reno or Portland make sense?
