IT TAKES A LOT TO STOP A TRAIN.  Several Japanese trains have been reported overdue in the aftermath of Friday's earthquake and tsunami.

The Guardian link offers frequently updated content. The recovery from this earthquake will take some time.  The train shown was caught by the tsunami at Shinchi, in Fukushima prefecture.

That image brings it home more than the destruction of buildings - I don't imagine anybody on board could have survived.

Saw another image of a freight train where the locomotive was still upright with tracks in front and behind washed away, and the container flats tossed around like N-gauge models. Hope the driver survived; he's have had a chance if he'd stayed in his cab rather than try to run.
