IN PLACE OF THE CAMP TRAIN.

A Slate columnist meditates on summer camp.  In his environment, it's no longer driving to the exurbs and dropping the tween off for two weeks, it's meeting an airplane from somewhere.  In more rarified settings, eight weeks at summer camp includes a pickup at the nearby airport, and costs more than a year of community college tuition.

It's a long way from rolling the spawn of the Eastern Establishment into the Big Woods on old 12 - sleepers.
