Each year, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Trains tour the United States and Canada in support of local food banks. We've watched the 2006 tour from Gurnee and the 2007 tour from Sturtevant (that with a train ride thrown in) and the past few years weather, or other responsibilities intervened. But the train still runs, and I caught up with it on Thursday, in Pingree Grove.
It's a day stop in the middle of a week, entertainment for preschoolers, more than a few of whom were bringing contributions of food for the Northern Illinois Food Bank collection crew.
The band makes a dramatic entrance. The stage car now has a hinged side that lets down to allow the performers to get outside, weather permitting.
And Santa joins in the festivities. Look closely, two of the entertainers, including headliner Kira Isabella, are rocking CPR varsity jackets.
