Fairdale, Illinois, a DeKalb County settlement that got on the wrong end of an EF-4 tornado, was built to old zoning codes, meaning a rebuild in-kind would not comply.  Residents requested variances from the county board, which the board has now granted.  "The DeKalb County Board approved an ordinance that rezoned the unincorporated town of Fairdale, allowing residents to rebuild with modern requirements and without the permit fee."
