We're heading into the Labor Day weekend, with those early Friday get-aways affecting Metra commuter rail service. "Early departure schedules will be in effect on Friday, Sept. 2 for nine of Metra’s 11 lines. Most of these schedules include extra service prior to the regular 5 p.m. start of the rush hour, with the cancellation or modification of some later rush hour train schedules." Monday's service will be on the holiday schedule, and the liquor ban that's in effect during major downtown events will apply.
In most cases, the early getaway trains supplant regularly scheduled rush-hour trains operating toward the end of usual quitting times. For example, on the Elburn line, the skip-stop train for LaFox that normally leaves at 5.09 is replaced by a LaFox train, first stop Elmhurst, earlier in the afternoon.
