Sometimes, working on the railroad involves long stretches of new track, or large chunks of benchwork and sub-roadbed.

That's all to make possible the detail work, which means building a custom turnout to fit a space where the out-of-the-box hardware won't go.

Get the stock rail for the main route in place, but not spiked fully, locate the frog (this took some trial and error here, but I can get away with a Number Eight on a ten-foot radius curve), now I've tied the other rail on the main route to the frog, and I'm laying out the diverging route.

A few more of these in, and we'll be seeing some trains running continuously.  The absence of the Packers from the playoffs means more model railroading opportunities.
