Sometimes, what Democrats do defies parody. Dan Mitchell nominates current Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker for a George Orwell award. "The governor of Illinois actually asserted that higher income taxes are needed to stop people from leaving the state."
It sounds plausible at first blush: as the net effect of Illinois property and sales taxes, which are onerous and fall more heavily on lower income people, is regressive, the proportional income tax suggests a stronger incentive for lower income people to avoid all of Illinois's taxes by leaving.
The reality, though, is that Illinois is chasing the higher income people out.
