WITHDRAW YOUR SANCTION.

For years, I have called attention to the administrative usurpations turning the calling of professor into the chore of special education teacher whilst requiring the sort of input-measurement useful in crafting a control panel in such a way as to encourage derivative scholarship of the minimal publishable unit form, rather than engaging in creativity.

Do you want to know who is John Galt?  "The man who retires from public life, to think, but not to share his thoughts-the man who chooses to spend his years in the obscurity of menial employment, keeping to himself the fire of his mind, never giving it form, expression or reality, refusing to bring it into a world he despises-the man who is defeated by revulsion, the man who renounces before he has started, the man who gives up rather than give in, the man who functions at a fraction of his capacity, disarmed by his longing for an ideal he has not found-they are on strike, on strike against unreason, on strike against your world and your values."

Little did I know, at the time, how prescient that John Galt quote was.  "The capture of American universities by this moral rot has left many professors who are committed to old-school ideas—like, say, the outlandish notion that universities should be dedicated to the pursuit of truth—heading for the exits."  Details at that link, and this.

Fine.  I can easily expand the scope of my posts.  "I have withdrawn my sanction in the strongest possible terms.  I reserve the right, though, to bring to your attention the struggles of embattled faculty to reclaim rights and responsibilities more properly theirs."

Those rights and responsibilities might include tightening the curriculum and removing senior administrators who abuse their status as public intellectuals.

Campus anti-Zionism and leftwing anti-Semitism are not new. The organizations behind the rallies and letters and social media posts have been around for a while. Democratic Socialists of America, Black Lives Matter, Students for Justice in Palestine, and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom have spent years preparing for this moment. What they have set in motion is stunning, nonetheless.

The behavior of university administrations is just as shocking. They have either been mealy-mouthed or morally imbecilic. They have done everything they could to avoid the reality of Hamas’s barbarism. They are silent as their students celebrate terrorism; they are outraged if called to account for their moral corruption. They have built an environment where dissidents are heckled and harassed and even assaulted; where intellectual freedom is stifled; where racial separatism, political correctness, and gender ideology run rampant; where due process is violated; and where violence, so long as it is "revolutionary," is glorified.

That's what treating Critique of Pure Tolerance as foundational gets you.  Perhaps Matthew Continetti's hopes will be realized.

Faced with a great test of moral seriousness, our educational establishment has skipped class. It has joined the delinquents. Not only is it unable to recognize virtue. It aids viciousness. The future may be unknown and forbidding, but one thing is clear. The academy will never live down this shame.

It is going to be on us to keep pushing them, lest the habits of the past thirty years come out of hibernation once the current loss of confidence passes.

Our universities, particularly the ones you hear about all the time, are being run by terminally stupid people.  Let the regeneracy begin.  "Is anybody surprised that denying coherent beliefs might generate incoherence, or counterrevolution?"
