TWO-FOUR-SIX-EIGHT, SMASH THE ADMINISTRATIVE STATE.

I'll leave it to others, such as Joe Concha in Washington's Examiner, to nit-pick the "no more tyrants" message.

Sarcasm aside, these protests, while large in scale, were attended by mostly older people who likely were also part of the Vietnam protests yearning for the past, but also something to feel morally superior about today.

In this case, the cause is “saving democracy.” Or something. And these folks could not be any more hypocritical.

Back in 2024, Democrats were also screeching about “saving democracy” from Donald Trump, only to oust a sitting president from the nomination and install Kamala Harris without one single vote from the public, Soviet-style. Democrats cheered the lawfare and weaponization of the justice system in an effort to take down Trump before the election. They also supported taking him off state ballots in places such as Maine and Colorado. And when Trump was banned from most social media, they argued that censorship of conservatives was necessary to save the republic.

This is also the same group that overwhelmingly supports stacking the Supreme Court with liberal justices, adding two states, D.C. and Puerto Rico, and abolishing the Electoral College, defying the Founding Fathers’ desire to strike a balance between large and small states. They believed in forcing people to take the COVID-19 vaccine — so much for “my body, my choice” — and masking children as young as 2 years old who were never at risk.

In other words, to “save democracy,” the most essential parts of the Constitution need to be blown up in the name of one-party rule. Makes total sense.

And here’s why these protests don’t mean anything in the end: No Kings will not convert almost any Trump supporters to the other side. In fact, almost all moderates will be pushed further away from the far-left wing of the party.

True much of that might be, and yet Our President is doing everything he can to push moderates away.

And yes, Pajamas Media's Tim O'Brien has noticed the predominance of the olds in these rallies.  Well, with Wisconsin rejoining the Ivies in college football irrelevance, why not recapture those thrilling protest vibes of yesteryear?

Before going any further, as I have learned in my professional life, there are two cohorts of boomers. It’s not a monolithic generation. The first cohort is the Woodstock boomer. The conscientious objector who protested against the Vietnam War and “Tricky Dicky.” The second cohort is the post-war, post-draft, Saturday Night Fever group. I’m a member of this one.

There was once a much bigger divide between these two groups, and even within that first cohort, not all were anti-war or pot-smoking hippies. The first one was exceptional in that it was much more politically engaged than any other young generation before or after it, including my cohort. While older boomers were more in their element at a peace protest, smoking dope and contemplating the meaning behind John Lennon’s lyrics, my group was more likely to be found with a keg of beer at a toga party. Some of us may have hated disco, some may have loved it, but my group was in universal agreement that nothing, including Washington, D.C., was going to get in the way of a good time.

As we’ve aged, the general divide between these two groups has narrowed. Most of us, thankfully, are not as serious or unserious as we once were.

That said, the groups you see at anti-Trump, anti-ICE, anti-MAGA demonstrations are mostly a smaller portion of that large first cohort, old hippies and their friends.

And here I sit, in the cusp, to borrow an astrological term, between those two cohorts.  The mindset of the older cohort was still dominant, which meant that one had to rebel against the rebels to save any integrity.

That noted, let me call attention to that "Make America Constitutional Again" toward the back row.  It might be that a libertarian or two showed up at that rally, although, given the location, I doubt it.  To make America Constitutional again, wouldn't further trimming of the Federal Register and a massive reduction in the ranks of unelected bureaucrats be in order?
