BE PREPARED. Semi-open thread at Dan Drezner on postponing the national election in case of a terrorist attack. If memory serves, New York City had a primary on 11 September 2001, which was cancelled that morning and held a few weeks later, with sufficient time for absentee voters to make arrangements. Might be interesting to check on whether local elections, if any, in Carmel or Lake George or Batavia went on as planned. It's a good idea to be prepared for such a disruption, but it's a better idea for everybody to agree that we will be voting on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November, everywhere if nothing goes wrong, with some specification of postponement plans in case of a disruption.

If this election is as close as the one four years ago, the greater disruption is likely to be tracking polls and network calling of states before everybody in that state has voted. I plan to vote ... let any lowlife attempt to dissuade me at his own risk!
