FASCHING DIENSTAG.

It has been my custom of late to see Fasching off with a Nubbelverbrennung.  For this year, enjoy Dom Radio reporting from in front of Kölner Dom. Yes, the ritual parodies a number of Catholic rites, and yet the report got into the spirit of the thing.  There's closed captioning auf Deutsch.

The "cheeky clergyman" in the interview is in real life a practicing Catholic.

Again this year, there are a few pączki still on hand here, where "sacrificing for Lent" conflicts with "waste not, want not" we err on the side of wasting not. "If you don't eat at least one pączek, you will be unlucky all year long."
