Yes, these days "April Fool" is supposed to be about merry and meaningless pranks.

The notion of the April Fool originated with the transition from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, which, in addition to changing the way leap years were calculated and adding a few extra days, moved the beginning of the year to January from April.

The April Fool was the devotee of the old regime.
