III. ADVENT.

In the church calendar, Advent serves as a way to keep the faithful patient, as the glad tidings are to come at Christmas, but it is still time to contemplate the sinful world not yet offered the gift of redemption.

In the secular calendar, though, we might as well be counting down.  That includes delivering Santa Claus to Schuster's department store, or perhaps the contemporary re-enactment thereof.  Outdoor gatherings are again safe enough that the East Troy Electric Railroad rolled out the latest parade train on 4 December.
