FRIDAY short TAKES.

Liberal sadism is For Your Own Good, Deplorable.  "They love to boss the rest of us around and make us miserable."

The weekly roundup of pithy reinforcement of traditional Cold Spring Shops themes follows.

1.  Finding those missing men and women.  "It is on mature and realistic adults to convey these hard truths to our young people."

2.  Don't be a spaz, spaz.  "[P]athetic to give these activists this veto power."

3.  That was the plan.  "Make sanctuary cities and their supporters deal with the problem they created."

4.  Gooder and harder, Democrats.  "Price controls are always, and everywhere, a terrible idea."

5.  Affirm the perversity.  "In a little more than a decade, you are going to have a lot of screwed up, unhappy kids on your hands."

6.  The tragic vision.  “[N]o candidate has a hundred percent checkmark.”

7.  Improving the physician's bedside manner?  "[B]eing indoctrinated in 'intersectionality' does nothing to improve a student’s clinical knowledge."

8.  Deanlets gotta deanlet.  "[I]t is the weak-mindedness of college administrators in general that have led us to the current situation."

9.  Illinois, California, or New York chase the productive people out.  "Republicans were most apt to move to lower-tax states, while Democrats were lured by abortions, rainbow-sex people, and the quest for that ever-elusive racial equality."

10.  Just not yet: "California wants to quit fossil fuels."

11.  Mugged by reality?  "Both the Summer of Floyd and Covid did a number on a lot of people. They saw just what the ruling class's priorities were, and how privilege works in this country now. They felt threatened, and lost all faith in authorities, and in Authority."  More:  "Ordinary Americans are not having a good time and they are not happy. Both party establishments are afraid of their own bases, with good reason."

12.  Is discontent among the bases a consequence of the Permanent Establishment overreaching?  "[T]he authoritarian impulse — a preference for achieving policy goals through coercion rather than the untidy give-and-take of democratic negotiation — now seems to be the default."

13.  It's all in Buckwheat's binder.  "[The Jarrett regency] doesn't just not feel our pain — it jumps through hoops to tell us we aren't feeling that pain at all."

14.  Merrick Garland, querulous little worm.  "The feds better have MAJOR stuff on Trump that locks him away, or they may have just elected him president again."

15.  Thanks, Tom Engelhardt, and all you other old hippies.  "[W]hat could better fit an America in decline than a president in decline, the more radically so the better?"

16.  The generalization is left as an exercise.  "Directly charging drivers for their parking is much fairer than forcing everyone to pay for it indirectly."

17.  Beyond parody.  "It’s a grim picture, no matter what Biden & Co. say. And most of the blame lies with him and his fellow Dems, who’ve fueled demand with needless spending, made war on gas supplies and generally slammed producers with new regulations."

18.  Where's the fun in questioning the bad news?  "It is astounding that we are asked to spend gargantuan amounts of money, and severely reduce economic prosperity along the way especially in poor countries, to address the climate during our great-great-grandchildren's lives, yet proposed legislation and regulations do not calculate and advertise what the actual benefits of policies are are in a public, quantifiable, and transparent way."

19.  Megalomaniacs with credentials.  "White coat supremacy—rule by unelected medical bureaucrats—has quarantined truth, common sense, and any sense of accountability to the people."
