This week has featured late-summer-like weather, good for outdoor activities such as putting the garden to bed or taking walks to polls or coffee house, here at the south end of Lake Michigan, while cold air lurks in the Dakotas.
That map, from a few years ago, depicts the sort of clash of air masses that can spawn the Gales of November.
