A SHAMEFUL ACT OF VANDALISM. The latest edition of Britain's Railway Magazine (there is no online content) reports on a plan to redevelop London's Paddington Station with an office block in place of shed 4. The plan reminds me of one of the losing designs for an office complex intended to replace New York's Pennsylvania Station (what actually went there wins no prizes) and commuters headed for trains on tracks (er, platforms) 10-15 will have to duck around structural elements of the towers, in the manner of Metra passengers at Chicago's Union Station. Here's one United Nations project I can agree with wholeheartedly: Paddington Station as World Heritage Site.
