SELECTIVE COMPRESSION. To fit an O Scale railroad into a smallish basement is to make some compromises on the layout design elements. Here, the local freight is waiting at the end of double track in Everett for the passenger train to clear. The grade looks like the same grade I referred to earlier as "West Gloucester." A crossover separates a short runaround track for Everett from the long runaround track for Gloucester.


In the background are some empty hoppers spotted on the high line for the Eastern Gas and Fuel blast furnace. Perhaps some pictures of that operation next.

Selective compression also means the local must wait for the Boston switcher to clear a track in the staging yard.


On the prototype a train would not have to hold this far out of the yard.
