Hamilton held a 5-4 lead heading to the top of the sixth inning Tuesday afternoon. When the Wildcats had finished batting, they had scored nine runs to sew up a 14-4 victory and claim early control of the City Conference race.
The motivation is genuine.
Hamilton, which lost all three times it faced Bay View a year ago, improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. The Redcats fell to 3-1, 2-1.I think that's called "they opened the door and we walked in."
"This is a big one after what they did to us last year," said [Hamilton coach Kay] Nichols, whose team fell to Bay View in the regional semifinals a year ago. "This should give us a lot of momentum for the rest of the year."
Hamilton's final inning was all about momentum . . . and generosity.
Scoring nine runs in one inning is certainly unusual but the real oddity was that the Wildcats had just two hits along the way. Instead, they were aided by a giving bunch from Bay View.
