The rebels, making good use of the foot cavalry, held their own in 1861 and 1862 before being overwhelmed in 1863. Despite some spite scores in 1864, the 1865 surrender was followed with Varsity and the Bud Song. On Sunday the Iron Brigade showed the Yankee Volunteers how to win.
