WE SOLICIT YOUR ATTENTION.

Every day should be Cross Crossings Cautiously Day.  We do have a Rail Safety Week, and apparently there are a lot of people taking their chances racing trains to crossings.  Burma Shave had a public service announcement about that phenomenon, almost a century ago.

In Canada, there is a poster contest for children of up to age eight.  "We’re asking children to create an original piece of visual art that shows their favourite Thomas & FriendsTM character, as well as Canadian railway signs and signals, and includes at least one of these important rail safety messages."

Some of the messages lend themselves to youthful imagination better than others.  I have a bit of a history with poster contests, and on occasion the kids in Metra territory come up with some gems in the Metra safety contest.

The winning entries will be displayed on the Operation Lifesaver Canada website.  The mind boggles, though, at those Really Useful Engines from the Island of Sodor being directed by North American searchlight signals.
