THERE ARE LIMITS.

Marquette University administrators have worked, mightily, to demonstrate that, for a basketball school, they're pretty woke.  "It's likely there are some supernumeraries among the deanlets, deanlings, and scribes there who are praying most fervently for the plague [of people calling attention to woke excesses] to subside in order that basketball might resume."

Perhaps the deanlets have figured out that the best way to not have attention called to woke excesses is to not commit them in the first place.  "Students who demonstrated at Marquette University convocation must step down from leadership roles."  Marquette is not the only "institution of higher learning" at which the most aggravated students disrupted the fall welcoming convocation for insufficient fealty to diversity. inclusion, and equity.

Back in August, Marquette postponed its 2022 convocation ceremony after members of multiple student organizations held an on-stage protest.

The Black Student Council (BSC) said in an announcement that the protest was held in response to the elimination of the school's Office of Engagement and Inclusion. It said shutting it down "without stating why is unacceptable."

The BSC also said "it's absurd" that the university's Urban Scholars program has over 100 students — mostly students of color — but just one full-time staff member and no plans to hire another until 2023.

Read on, it's the usual professional protest constituencies with the usual gripes.  Yes, the university made the usual protestations of good faith in times of corona tyranny.

"The Great Resignation has resulted in open positions at the university, similar to organizations across the country. Marquette is currently in the process of refilling four positions in the Office of Engagement and Inclusion. Each of those positions support first generation and students of color on campus.

In addition to OEI, Marquette has a separate Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, several programs and faculty and staff throughout the university who support students of color, because the responsibility to be inclusive is on all of us," said Lynn Griffith, University spokesperson."

The university also noted that with the responsibility to be inclusive there is a responsibility to be well-behaved.

It is a longstanding policy outlined in Marquette’s student organization guidelines that the officers of all student organizations, as well as the elected and appointed senators and officials of MUSG, must be in good standing (not on academic or disciplinary probation) at the time of their election or appointment, and throughout their terms of office.

Do the crime, do the time. Disciplinary probation is not some sort of double secret probation, is it?
