A CLEAR STATEMENT OF CONTEMPT. Thus did a colleague in another department characterize the Great Zulauf Space Grab. Economics is pretty much in place and sorted out for the new semester. It still galls, though, to have rooms that we absolutely, positively, had to be out of by the last Friday of exam week not ready to be occupied by the new occupants. Some departments might be in temporary quarters for the beginning of the fall term with people compelled to pack up and move again during midterms, or perhaps the December exam week. The deans who precipitated this space grab have yet to be moved, and the advisors that are supposed to occupy the deans' offices are not yet to be seen.
In two weeks comes the acting dean's "state of the college" address. That should make for some good copy.
