THE GREEN IS HIGH AND THE BARK IS PEELED. Destination: Freedom reports on recent developments along the Boston and Maine's Western Route Main Line. The summer stop at Old Orchard Beach is now available for Downeaster passengers. (Illinois: a Gurnee stop for Six Flags traffic?) The ground floor of the Boston Garden (otherwise known as North Station) will receive additional passenger facilities. (The old Boston and Maine Railroad sold off much of its station space for other uses. A tavern along Causeway Street occupied the old waiting room, which at one time had benches allocated for destinations, and a station attendant who would awaken sleeping passengers in time for the next train. That tavern later closed, I understand, because of water damage from the ice system upstairs.)
