Posting has been light the past few days, because the outside world, particularly as it involves college football, has been so diverting.
December 1: West Virginia plays at South Florida. Some years ago, I visited friends there to watch Wisconsin win a game. South Florida, might as well return the favor. West Virginia gets a field goal as time expires to win by three, and a bowl bid.
December 2: Ohio plays Northern Illinois in the Mid-American title game at Detroit. Northern Illinois gets a field goal as time expires to win by three, and a bowl bid.
December 3: Wisconsin plays Michigan State in the initial Big Ten title game at Detroit. (Michigan State has been the home team for four of the past five Wisconsin games.) Wisconsin draws a running into the kicker penalty with time to run out the clock to win by three, and a bowl bid.
December 4: Packers play New York at the Penn Station landfill. Packers get a field goal as time expires to win by three, and the first playoff spot.
News reaches Cold Spring Shops that the Wayne State Warriors (no longer Tartars?) stay alive in the Division II playoffs, "after knocking off defending champions Minnesota-Dulluth" (more evidence of the decay of proofreading skills) in Duluth. Apparently there aren't enough permutations of F and B and C and S to distinguish Division II yet, and Apathy U. gathered enough fan support to organize a laptop-to-big-screen party at a bar.
Yes, some of the Serious Thinkers are Taking Sides about the deeper significance, or not, of college football, and there are some interesting meditations on the opportunity cost of tournament games, and other events of more import, but that programming will resume later this week. It's exam week, and the deadlines associated with that will be met first.
