THE POWERS OF TEN.

A month ago, we found a German work extra with steam power.  More recently, a video of another German Decapod, slugging it out over hill and dale with a gravel train, came to light.

I don't know, those level crossing warning bells don't sound that authoritative, but the stack talk is compelling.

That got me looking around for a serious North American revenue move with a Decapod, and one took place not too far from here.  A few years ago, the Illinois Railway Museum leased its mainline to Union Pacific to store idle unit coal train consists, and Russian Decapod Frisco 1630 was available for its break-in run to return the coal cars to Union Pacific.

On a preservation railway, it's not featherbedding to have a few extra hands on board to help out just in case, or perhaps to record the activity.

The museum did not rent out the main line for storage this past winter, which freed up track space for a few commemorative events. The steam season will resume Memorial Day weekend.
