SOME OF THEM, I SUPPOSE, ARE GOOD PEOPLE.

The discontent the big city mayors have caused among their traditional constituents with their posturing about being sanctuary cities, which flared nearly a year ago in the Woodlawn and South Shore neighborhoods of Chicago, has only become more pronounced, Festive Season and a reprise of the polar vortex notwithstanding.

The current fireworks started in a meeting of ... an Illinois chapter of a civil rights organization.

NAACP Illinois State Conference President Teresa Haley was recorded in a virtual meeting calling migrants “savages” and claiming they are raping people in the Chicago-community.

In an interview with The Daily Beast Wednesday, former NAACP DuPage County President Patrick Watson said top NAACP leaders throughout Illinois met for a meeting on Oct. 26. Haley, who also leads the Springfield chapter, presided over the meeting.

“The comments came up when some of the Chicago-based presidents started to talk about the migrant crisis, the funding that was going into neighborhoods, and they had differing opinions from my own. It's OK to have differing opinions,” Watson said. “They had different opinions about some of the resources that were going to the community, that resources weren't going towards individuals within the community, even though those resources are coming from different sources. …That's okay to have a different opinion. But President Haley engaged in what I would call absolute hate speech.”

Ms Haley did not have a gilded escalator as prop for her speech.

“What’s happening in Chicago is a shame,” Haley says, “and it’s a crime,”

She and others explain how the Black community of Chicago is lacking resources; meanwhile, they claim migrants receive more attention and care from state and federal authorities.

“The busloads are coming, and we’re seeing families on the street,” Haley says.

She pointed out that homeless Black people have not received the same help as migrants because of stereotypes of Black people on the streets as “drug addicts” and people battling mental health issues.

Oddly enough, then Haley dishes her own set of negative generalizations about migrants.

“But these immigrants we got coming over here, they been raping people, they been breaking into homes. They’re like savages as well,” Haley says. “They don’t speak the language, and they look at [Black people] like we’re crazy because we were the only people in America who were brought over here against our wills and were slaves, sold into slavery.

There's nothing like a little Oppression Olympics to go with your pumpkin pie, is there?

It's interesting, though, how quickly the political dynamics changed when the border-state governors started providing transportation to those northern destinations, isn't it?  When the secret flights were being organized by the Jarrett regency, and Raggedy Ann was deflecting and spinning, those big-city mayors kept their own counsel.

Now, that's not so easy.  Consider Chicago.

Lauren Lawrence, a woman who described herself as a Chicago native, born and raised in the city, said she witnessed a “transition as if a lot of people are not important here.”

“I’m not for the sanctuary city, and the reason why I’m not for the sanctuary city is because people have waited years to come in here legally,” she said. “Not just transported on these buses, dropped off in our neighborhood, raise of crime, almost got hit several times just making it down here today. And this is ludicrous. There should not be two sets of laws.”

“Also, the West Side and the South Side Black communities have been earmarked for having funds – never seen it. We’re still waiting those funds to come into those communities,” she continued, taking aim at the new mayor, who just assumed office in May, replacing former Mayor Lori Lighfoot.

“Brandon Johnson, many people stood behind you. They feel let down, because the day you came into office, which I believe was May 15, you already had signed an executive order,” Lawrence said Thursday, referencing Johnson’s Day One order establishing a “deputy mayor for immigrant, migrant and refugee rights.”

The May 15 order instructs all city department heads to take direction from the new deputy mayor “to ensure the efficacy of Chicago’s status as a welcoming and sanctuary city.”

“Now, whether it came from Gov.r (sic) Pritzker or whomever that directed you on this, is it fair to these communities that have been waiting for years? You said you on the West side, but you should know what’s going on over there as well,” Lawrence said. “When are you going to have our neighborhoods cleaned up? And when are we going to get the rights that we deserve?”

“I’m not against anyone coming in here legally. I want to say that clearly. But for those who have not, they don’t top us. They don’t go before us. We’re not last in line,” she said.

There are all sorts of possibilities for national security conservatives to peel voters away from Democrats here, and the reality that there are limits to living at the expense of other people might be dawning on at least some people.  Trump, come in here, clean this mess up!

You could see one black woman in brown take that in and then she jumped up and clapped. And other residents were making noise. That's bad news for Joe Biden. These residents get Biden has failed them.

It's also worth noting that it sounds like his mic was cut after he called for Trump and said they were the most corrupt city in the United States. It's too late, guys, he already got it out.

Not that the "corrupt" part was any secret, any more than the suckitude of the Bears is.  Before the Bears recorded their tenth loss, though, Chicago alderman Brian Hopkins took the L for his city.

Our status as a sanctuary city first was established way back in the '80s. This is not new. We put this flag in the ground a long time ago. No one at that time had any idea that it would lead to this today. This was completely unpredicted and it’s completely unprecedented, and nobody thought a sanctuary city would mean what it means.

He also called for the Jarrett regency to enforce the southern border.

We'll get to the notion of "sanctuary" and the case for border enforcement in time.

First, though, we note the alacrity with which suburban and exurban city councils can pass legislation when they have to.  Buses and airplanes loaded with illegal aliens were arriving in Chicago until that city council imposed restrictions on where the buses could set down their passengers.  It's not that hard, though, to find a city with a Metra station, and provide the arrivals with a train ticket into Chicago.

As the rhetoric surrounding this issue grows more heated, a growing number of suburbs are convening emergency meetings and taking action to keep those migrant buses away.

Buses have been dropping off asylum seekers unannounced in towns like University Park, Aurora and more.

Two more buses are expected Thursday near Des Plaines and Polk streets in Chicago, and more migrants were dropped off there Wednesday night, huddling in the cold.

In south suburban Matteson, the village board passed an ordinance threatening hefty fines for bus drivers unloading migrants without notice in an effort to skirt Chicago's regulations.

"The message is don't just drop off individuals into our community. Don't do that to anyone. It's inhumane to do that," said Village President Sheila Chalmers-Currie.

"If these migrants are being dropped off in the wee hours of the morning, and they're, let's say, they walking or wandering near I-57, that's not safe," said Matteson Village Attorney Felicia Frazier.

Just days before Christmas, Grundy County, which is southwest of Chicago, put up two digital signs along Interstate 55 to deter buses from stopping in the fairly rural area.

Elburn, currently the westernmost station served by Metra, also took action against those buses.

Grundy County leaders made a plan over the weekend to encourage buses to move on if they stop there, or, if migrants are abandoned, they will get them to Joliet and put them on trains to transfer them to sanctuary cities.

"We wanted to make sure that we had a plan so that we didn't leave these people stranded out in the cold with no place to go," Briley said.

During a special board meeting Wednesday night, Chicago Ridge voted to crack down on random drop-offs.

The village of Elburn also voted to demand five days advanced notice of a bus arrival and background checks of migrants on board.

Violations will cost the bus company up to $750 per passenger.

And DeKalb, which has for the past forty years been ten years away from having Metra service, has joined the party.

The DeKalb community weighs in on what the city should do if migrants are dropped off in the city by bus.

Following reports of migrant transportation in Rockford and beyond, cities like DeKalb are staying prepared for similar events. Without the resources to properly care for additional people, the DeKalb city council debated the idea of a new ordinance.

In an urgent meeting Thursday night, council members discussed an ordinance to impound and fine buses dropping off migrants unannounced. DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes says this plan will hold these transportation companies accountable for what calls “inhumane acts.” He expresses that this is not an attack on migrants, rather an option to provide them a safe passage to Chicago.

“If you have a bus full of migrants and you show up in our community to dump them off with no plan for shelter, with no plan for food, or anything to get them on to their next destination then we’re going to impound your bus and we’re going to fine you $1,000 per head,” Barnes says.

The floor was open to community members who shared their thoughts on the proposed plan. Despite the ordinance passing by majority vote, some DeKalb residents disagreed with the decision with one woman saying, “Penalizing them is not going to make this go away.”

That next destination? Guess.

Mayor Barnes says in the event a bus does stop in DeKalb; the city has prepared a plan to ensure the safety of everyone offloading.

“We’ve already got an arrangement with all of our hotels, we know how we’re going to feed them, we’ve got charter buses already scheduled to bring them into Elburn,” Barnes says. “I will personally be there that night to make sure each and every one of them gets on there safely.”

The city of DeKalb notes that any person disembarking from public or private transportation will have the opportunity to safely get to their destination.

Rockford renamed its airport Chicago-Rockford in the hopes of becoming that third hub airport.  So far, that hasn't happened, although cargo carriers found it a convenient way of avoiding O'Hare.  But if you have a list of sanctuary cities including Chicago, and a list of airports that mention Chicago, you know what happens next. Plane carrying 355 Texas migrants arrives at Rockford airport.  Rockford is not a sanctuary city.  "'Once the plane lands, those onboard will offload and immediately board buses to Chicago’s ‘landing zone.’ Those on the plane will not exit the airport property at any time before boarding the buses,' a late Saturday joint statement from Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara, Winnebago County Board Chair Joe Ciarelli and other local officials said."  Those downstate communities turning the buses and planes away are part of a larger rebellion against the Combine's Chicago-centric misrule of Illinois, and the sanctuary policies of the ward-heeler big city mayors are prompting rebellions in those cities and in the suburbs and exurbs of those cities.

The episode is providing clarity about the failure of the national government to enforce the immigration laws.

One of the ironies here is that under federal law, any alien who is “likely at any time to become a public charge” is “inadmissible,” even if otherwise legal. So Mayor Adams’ complaint is properly directed to Joe Biden, who, in disregard of his duties under Article II of the Constitution and his oath of office, has ignored federal law and opened the southern border to all comers.

Of course it is ridiculous to think that a bus company is supposed to investigate the background of everyone who shows up with a ticket to find out whether that person is an illegal alien because (among other reasons) he is likely to claim welfare benefits. That is the job of the Biden administration, which, obviously, is not being performed.

It's also providing clarity on the notion of sanctuary city.  Winnebago County sheriff Gary Caruana might think that Rockford is not a sanctuary city.

Winnebago County authorities notify federal authorities when processing criminals without proof of citizenship. According to a 2017 interview with Sheriff Gary Caruana, his deputies don’t ask about immigration statuses during routine police contacts.

Caruana said illegal immigrants, charged with crimes, warrants, or who are wanted, would be turned over to federal authorities.

It sounds like he has an understanding of "sanctuary city" similar to that expressed by Red State's Mike Miller.

"Sanctuary city" sounded to Democrats like a veritable Shangri-La for illegal aliens. They would show America that they were the "party of compassion." They would show Americans how cold-hearted Republicans are. They would show the world.

They would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections.  They would not verify that applicants for food stamps or Section 8 vouchers were public charges.

But that was the motte.  Now that the sanctuary follies are clear to anyone who would look, defenders of sanctuary cities have retreated to the bailey.  We don't check citizenship papers on routine calls.  We don't cross-reference the identities we check with federal warrants.  Kate Steinle could not be reached for comment.

And now, Mexico and its southern neighbors have an opportunity to ask for all sorts of concessions.

The Biden administration is increasingly leaning on Mexico to curb the record flow of migrants crossing into the U.S., but Mexico has its own lists of ambitious asks for the U.S., say officials from both governments familiar with the discussions.

Previous measures taken by the Biden administration to stem the migrant surge have led to only temporary dips in the numbers, and in late December, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken went to Mexico to meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to ask for greater assistance. Those conversations were “preliminary,” the officials said, and did not result in hard promises from either side.

In a press conference on Friday, López Obrador called on the U.S. to approve a plan that would deploy $20 billion to Latin American and Caribbean countries, suspend the U.S. blockade of Cuba, remove all sanctions against Venezuela and grant at least 10 million Hispanics living in the U.S. the right to remain and work legally.

All of those are extremely tall demands of an administration headed into a re-election campaign that may hinge on how firmly Biden is able to get control of the southern U.S. border, which saw a record 300,000 migrants processed by Customs and Border Protection in December.

Meanwhile, the three leading hopefuls for the Republican nomination intend to deport all of Dementia Joe's illegal entrants. I'm not optimistic about a message that might appeal to residents of Chicago and other cities where the illegal aliens are the latest Democrat stress test, but the stress tests of soft-on-crime prosecutors and schooling rendering the kids unemployable have been ongoing.  Buckle in.
