FRIDAY short TAKES.

Peanut and Fred did not die in vain.  They provided clarity about the nanny state.  "Peanut is for everyone who has ever feared that someone more powerful than you could walk into your home and take something that you absolutely cherish away from you, for absolutely no good reason, with no recourse."

The normies struck back.  They said enough.  They are here to stay.  "They have seen what the power of the cultural curators in our country, in academia, media, Hollywood, institutions, and corporations, and in the bureaucracies has done to their lives, and they have rejected it."  It's called agency.  "Trump defeated Harris in large part because very many Americans are like my siblings: ordinary, good, honest, hard-working people who are sick of being treated as if they are ignorant and helpless bigots."

It wasn't complicated.  "Trump won because people are worse off now than they were four years ago when he was president. Prices are higher, the border is broken and the world teeters on the edge of World War Three. That all happened on Harris’s watch."  All Our Past and Future President had to do was call attention.  "Trump has exploited the widespread disillusionment that has curdled into cynicism about a ruling class rife with hypocrisy, self-aggrandizement and bad judgment."  The past few years have felt anything but normal.  America is not a country that kowtows to the elites.

Now it is time to restore a state of good repair.  "The backlash against a failed elite was the phenomenon. He was just the face of it. If it weren’t Donald Trump, it would be someone else."

The weekly round-up of pithy elaborations on traditional Cold Spring Shops themes follows.

1.  Enjoy the win, and prepare to be angry.  "If Trump says the word, he can flood Washington, and other places, with supporters. The sheer terror and overreaction that the pathetic January 6 'insurrection' provoked tells you how frightened the establishment is of such things."

2.  Agnus DEI.  "Democrats owe a gigantic apology to Dan Quayle and Sarah Palin."

3.  Oops.  "Democrats are going to have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that Donald Trump was the Republican they most wanted to run against in 2024, which explains why they deliberately stirred up MAGA voters and boosted Trump’s chances through their lawfare campaign and other exertions."

4.  Indeed.  "Good luck achieving your political aims if you spend your life angry, exhausted and unhealthy."

5.  The significance of the passage of time.  "Americans don't want Biden, but they don't want Bidenism either."

6.  Freedom!  "It worked so well for Hillary Clinton and her 'Fight Song' of 2016."

7.  The illogic of collective action.  "Maybe the definition of insanity should be repeatedly voting for unity and expecting different results."

8.  Male ambition serves a purpose.  "Going to university, and working at modern companies, men live in a world of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies—many of which promote an insidious and pervasive form of anti-male discrimination."

9.  Who will tip the headsman?  "The recriminations to fly between the Biden and Harris camps will make Henry VIII’s separation from Anne Boleyn look like an amicable divorce."

10.  Hillsdale students went to class Wednesday.  “We young conservatives had to get over the Goldwater defeat without grief counselors.”

11.  It won't.  "Today, the Democrats have become the party of priggishness, pontification and pomposity. It may make them feel righteous, but how’s that ever going to be a winning electoral look?"  Let them be out of power for a generation.

12.  Emergence wins.  "But dynamic societies, while worse for the apparatchiks, are better in general, and exploration and expansion are how you get a dynamic society."

13.  Never attribute to malice ...  "One needn't imagine a mass hate wave to explain Trump's victory."

14.  Put local politics first.  "Consider what might be possible if we were to intentionally hop off the national news cycle and direct just a fraction of that attention to the little places that are passing us by in a blur: our own blocks, neighborhoods and towns."

15.  Let the kids play.  "What is bad is academic drill in preschool. Academic drill is also bad in kindergarten."

16.  Present the Marshallian Cross properly.  "My late, great PhD professor, Walter Williams, would deduct points from anyone who wrote the x-axis as just quantity."
