Somebody leaked portfolio pictures from her job application with Victoria's Secret.

Oh, sorry, those are candids her publicists on ABC's payroll made available from Tuesday's presidential debate.  The fluffery continues from coastal journalists.  "She turned to him with an arched brow. A quiet sigh. A hand on her chin. A laugh. A pitying glance. A dismissive shake of her head."  No, seriously, that's not stage directions from some cheesy Hallmark movie.

Miranda Devine, of New York's Post, wasn't that impressed.

If you switched off the sound for the ABC debate Tuesday night and just watched the images, you would come away feeling deep distaste for the haughty flibbertigibbet who kept making faces while Trump was speaking.

Harris’ split-screen pantomime made her seem unserious and unlikable and was clearly designed for the sort of viral “Brat Girl” moments on social media her juvenile campaign staff imagines are vote winners. Kween!

Unfortunately, the teetotaling Donald Trump probably isn't familiar enough with singles-bar culture to have said something about not being interested in that come hither grin you see in frames five and six above.  Ms Devine saw right through it.

While Trump was speaking and Harris knew her face was alongside his on the split screen, she would flash through a dozen different personas in 60 seconds, like an overmedicated Sybil.

Her expression would switch between narrowed-eye incredulity, smug contempt, pursed-lip amusement, a condescending smirk, a tilted head, a disapproving eyebrow, a thrusting chin, eye-rolling, head-shaking, a little macho shoulder swagger, and even a ridiculous chin-holding pose.

Almost all of Hollywood is in on the Democrats' scam, and that might have included a little in-kind assistance from acting coaches.  "Harris looked as if she had been practicing her multiple faces in the bathroom mirror for hours during the week she was holed up in a hotel doing debate prep."  William "Legal Insurrection" Jacobson saw the same debate, and he was having none of the mugging for the camera either.  "One thing I really noticed throughout was the faces that Harris was making—very condescending, very mocking, very childish, actually. I think that’s the one thing I remember more than anything about the debate."  Typical smug liberal, he concludes.  Recall, though, that Democrats have the sensibilities of college sophomores.  Timothy Carney of Washington's Examiner suggests the method acting was overdone, the kind of thing that happens when you overprepare.  "Harris smirks and shakes her head regardless of what Trump is saying. Her headshakes and shocked googly eyes and muted-mic 'not true' exclamations don’t correspond to her disagreements and her counterpoints. She is not actually reacting; she is simply making these faces because she knows she’s on camera."  The smile she offered when Mr Trump said "I'm talking" was similar to the one Walter Mondale offered when Ronald Reagan ventured that "my opponent's youth and experience."  The sophomores might enjoy the show, but the pollsters could be seeing something else.

Anybody remember that heavy sighing from Al "Count and recount and recount until we get the right result" Gore in 2000?  Didn't work for him, didn't impress Ben Voth, admittedly a contributor to the Trump-friendly American Thinker.

From a debate standpoint, looking at your opponent and making mocking interpersonal gestures with your face is childish and weak. Focusing on the camera and the audience that is adjudicating the debate is the best rhetorical option. It is likely that Harris hoped that her close proximity on the stage would allow her to provoke outrage from Trump with her mocking gestures. That did not happen and at key moments such as the discussion of the 13 dead U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, Harris had to abruptly change her facial expression on camera to not appear callous to a serious error by the Biden/ Harris administration.

Politics, recall, is acting, but the actors generally aren't as well trained as Ronald Reagan.  She did goad the easily goaded Mr Trump into his grievance tour, but that might not have been enough to sway the voters who will be buying cereal or gasoline.  Mr Voth, though, remembers Sighing Al.  "Gore also employed aggressive split screen non-verbals to convey his exasperation with Bush. Over time, those antics did not wear well in the public. It is not improbable that this process will play out again in fall 2024."

Let's also notice what might be little face-lifting around the edges. There's a less flattering set of candids out there, when the Botox isn't as effective.

Remember, the lady is pushing sixty.  But she has plans to buy off more constituents.  Sorry, not interested.
