The weekly round-up of pithy elaborations on traditional Cold Spring Shops themes follows.
1. Kamala Harris, like Oakland. "There's no coherent idea connecting these policies. Columnists can do all the heavy lifting they want to try and find a connecting thread. But the fact is there is just no there there."
2. The fruits of government-by-committee. "Mr. Trump has become a national father figure, a titanic offense to a party run by women with daddy issues and to their Marxist allies dogmatically bent on destroying the family (along with every other institution). As it happens, countries need fathers, both actual and symbolic."
3. Principles matter. "Right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change."
4. Mossad get results. "Where CIA would be trying to use exploding cigars and beard remover, Mossad blows off testicles."
5. Trading places? "The joke in Chicago was that any time things looked bad, at least we weren’t Detroit."
6. That hopey-changey stuff. "By the start of this century and even more with the candidacy of Barack Obama, it became clear to me that the Democratic Party was no longer what it was, but had become a rallying ground not just, obviously, for anti-Israel/antisemitic propaganda, but also for anti-American and even anti-Western Civilization thinking and policies."

Never mind that she had to be installed as nominee for the party establishment's 25th Amendment threat to be credible.
9. Yes. "I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote—vote small, vote for what's going on in your city."
10. Yes. "There is something grotesque and unseemly about doubling down on the problem that plagues the Democrats: elitism."
11. Yes. "Price controls proposed by Republicans are just as destructive as those proposed by Democrats."
12. Technocratic priests of the Intersectional Catechism. "It’s not science they’re committed to, but scientism – a weird hybrid of technocratic managerialism and radical progressive ideology. If the modern era was made possible by the separation of knowledge and morality, the worshippers at this new altar seem determined to usher in a new post-modern utopia in which science and religion are fused once again."
13. Break the governmental habit. "A president can have people who are true believers or he can have people who are competent; he probably can't have both, because there are simply too few of them."
14. The bipartisan border bill con. "It was never introduced, and would never have passed, in the House of Representatives. In the Senate, most Republicans opposed the bill in part because, even though it would have done some good things, it would also have regularized massive, daily flows of illegal crossers into the United States, which is specifically the problem Congress needed to stop."
15. The case for Trump, Mama Bear version. "Make laws that protect the kids from an untested fanaticism pretending to be healthcare. And the only way to do that is to vote for the Republicans straight down the ticket."
16. I warned you as much. "A mind virus is a set of untrue beliefs that includes a defense mechanism against truth-seeking. In the case of Woke Progressivism, the defense mechanism is to deny the existence of truth and instead to claim that power relationships determine what people believe."
17. Indeed. "Mark Zuckerberg has played a major role in the havoc wrought upon the country under the Biden-Harris reign of anti-Constitution terror. "
18. No. Next question? "Taylor Swift's a billionaire. Should government force you to listen to me sing to make life more fair?"
