The end of Karneval in Köln lasts for several days, with street parades, and the participants aren't only the transgressive floats.

As Tuesday gives way to Wednesday and Lent begins, there are the ceremonial bonfires called Nubbelverbrennung.  A video of one such event was soon available on line.

Again this year, there are a few pączki still on hand at Cold Spring Shops headquarters.  If "sacrificing for Lent" conflicts with "waste not, want not" we err on the side of wasting not. "If you don't eat at least one pączek, you will be unlucky all year long."

As we have noted previously, the sober times come.
