CONDOLENCES. Econ Log's Arnold Kling honors his father Merle Kling, provost emeritus of Washington University.

"Merle Kling was one of the greats of Washington University," former chancellor William H. Danforth said in a statement released by the university. "His balance and good sense protected both academic freedom and academic quality through the late 1960s and early '70s and kept Washington University a humane and decent place."
