THE AXE REMAINS IN MADISON. Again. This time, Wisconsin kept some separation from Minnesota (motto: ten thousand ways to surrender the Axe), including going for two with a double-digit lead late in the game. The conversion was a pass attempt. That was a mistake. Everybody knows it's Run the ball 'round Minnesota, touchdown sure this time!

The money Minnesota has been putting into football isn't buying much defense, and there is no evidence that the academic programs are less etiolated now than they were in July.

The North Shore Line gained permanent possession of the Electric Traction speed trophy after winning it in three consecutive years. The Axe has been in Madison for seven straight years.

It was a busy football afternoon at Cold Spring Shops, with Northern Illinois taking control over conference favorite Temple (Hey Hey Hey, love to play tackle) in the second half. That game was televised locally, Wisconsin's game was on the radio, and summerlike conditions prevailed.
