CELEBRATE TRANSGRESSIVITY, YOU'LL GET MORE OF IT.

Saturday was a day for a trip to Wisconsin, to stock up on Milorganite, Sprecher, and Spanferkl.

That's one of several weekends of the Oktoberfest at Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale, Wisconsin.  The Spanferkl sold out relatively early, the Bierhaus had a small Geschwader of traffic controllers directing parking starting at mid-day, and the grounds were full, although the lines at the beer stands and Jägermeister tent were not obnoxiously long.

Elsewhere in Milwaukee, there were other folk festivals in progress.

Thousands of people visited Franklin Field Saturday for the inaugural Tacos and Tequila Festival, listening to some of the biggest names in rap music.

The lineup included Nelly, Twista, and the Ying Yang Twins.

The Tacos and Tequila Festival likely brought 4,000 to 6,000 people to Franklin Field, according to a city permit application. It's something festival-goers have been waiting months for.

"Between the musicians, the tequila, and the tacos I think it's going to be a pretty great time," said Tanner Peterik.

That's not a bad crossover event for Mexican Independence Day, and I recognize at least one of the names as somebody who performed at Northern Illinois, although he's also known for, well, things that might go into Democrat fundraising efforts in Virginia.

It's not only the hip-hop raunch that organizers of Tacos and Tequila would rather the fourth estate not cover.

Management wouldn't let WISN 12 News go into the festival Saturday, unless we promised not to talk about how the noise impacts nearby neighborhoods.

"This morning around 10 I'm upstairs cleaning and all of a sudden I hear the windows rattle. And I go, 'what's going on here?'" said Dale Kirner, who lives by Franklin Field. "You can hear it as plain as day right now."

The festival comes after Milwaukee County's audit committee shared results of a $200,000 dollar Franklin Field sound study Wednesday. The study found that fireworks and concerts at the field violate Franklin's noise ordinances.

Rap, like heavy metal, has only two volume settings, Productive Drop Forge and Twin Cat Shots Off Carrier. That's sort of the point.

People living nearby say they aren't anti-fun.

"I think it's probably a fun place to go," said Dana Gindt, another neighbor. "We do say please turn it down. And we say that at every meeting."

They just want some peace and quiet.

Yes, Saturday was Mexican Independence Day, and while I was picking up the Sprecher, I saw multiple cases of Corona and Modelo going out the door, and there were a few pickup trucks adorned with Mexican flags cruising the stroads.  You might never put any 4x8 sheets of building materials in your truck, but boy howdy can you fly the flags, so why not?

Chicago, though, was a different story.  "Streets closed in downtown Chicago due to Mexican Independence Day celebrations."  Even regime media seemed perturbed.

Much of Chicago's Central Business District closed to incoming traffic Saturday night as large celebrations for Mexican Independence Day created chaos in the area.

Around 6:30 p.m. streets closed to incoming traffic from Division to 18th Street and from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Halsted Street "for safety reasons due to large caravans," according to a release from the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications Saturday evening.

Chicago Police were out in full force blocking off access, but some were able to bypass those blockades to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

Once patriotic revelers made it downtown it got loud. Many were chanting, celebrating their independence, honking horns, anything they could get their hands on that made a sound. That included an unplanned and illegal fireworks show outside of Daley Plaza.

Cars could be seen lining the streets for blocks. And some got out of their cars to start parading their way downtown holding Mexico's flag with pride.

The celebration started to get out of hand Friday.  "A driver slammed into an Illinois State Police patrol car blocking an expressway ramp to prevent Mexican Independence Day revelers from entering downtown Chicago on Friday night, the agency said. A trooper inside the squad car was not injured."

It only got better from there, according to Second City Cop.  "The media is giving minimal coverage to the downtown shut-down and we heard it was a disaster last night."  But you don't dare talk about that sort of transgressivity.  Sometimes, though, it's on public officials to say No and uphold standards.

How about canceling the fucking "parades" until they get it under control?

The organizers self-canceled the South Side Irish Parade when it got too stupid and drunk. They put in new rules, restrictions, and guess what? It's been nearly problem free - or at least far less of a problem than it had been the past couple years of existence.

What happened this weekend wasn't a "celebration" of culture. It was a shit show. And it needs to be canceled.

That's going to require downtown residents to, oh, stop voting for soft-on-crime prosecutors and ward-heeler politicians.

At least 11 people are facing felony charges in connection with Mexican Independence Day festivities over the weekend. Chicago police officers recovered at least six firearms downtown, and two drivers are charged with trying to run down cops working the celebrations.

City officials tried to seal off the downtown area by blocking access with police cars and salt and garbage trucks. But their efforts seemed to only inconvenience downtown residents, tourists, and working folks trying to get to their jobs.

That article calls the roll of what comes next: "Guns and cars and felony charges."

Stop enabling dysfunction, you'll get less of it.
