CROSS CROSSINGS CAUTIOUSLY.

Northern Illinois University reports the recent death of economist Alex Garivaltis.
Alexander Garivaltis, an NIU associate professor in the Economics department, died April 8 after he was struck by a train in Maple Park, according to the Kane County coroner’s office.

Garivaltis obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2010 and master’s degree in 2011 in mathematics from NIU, according to the NIU website. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2017.
Alex hired out with the department after I called it a career, and his portfolio included financial engineering and sports economics.  His undergraduate studies did not include any of my classes.

Kindly be advised, particularly as the weather improves and road tripping conditions are favorable, that trains aren't as agile as your scooter, bike, motorcycle, or automobile might be.  R. I. P.
