GIVE THE KIDS SPACE TO PLAY.

The women's professional basketball season in the United States is taking a two week pause for the international World Cup competition in Berlin.  The team and player descriptions suggest there are, in fact, ways of ranking players' capabilities, and some of the ladies who grade out well might not be making the trip.

Perhaps, when the professional season resumes, the playoffs begin, and the speculation about contract renewals and the like goes on, we might be able to have a reasoned conversation about the cagermetrics.  There might even be a simple summary statistic out there, something along the lines of "wins above replacement."  Rather that than a resumption of the culture wars.
