Because of course he did.
Iran's president said Wednesday that his people have been "victims of terrorism" by the United States, delivering a rare wartime speech at the U.N. General Assembly a day after President Donald Trump said he may "annihilate" the Islamic Republic if a deal isn't reached soon to end the nearly seven-month war.Gee, you think riling up your starveling base to yell "Death to Israel, death to America" for nearly a half century is a good way to win friends and influence people? Reap what you sow, stooge.
The defiant speech by President Masoud Pezeshkian marked a striking instance of a foreign leader addressing the world body while their country is at war with the host nation. While defending his country, Pezeshkian held up large photos of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the more than 150 Iranian schoolchildren killed on the first days of the war.
"We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists," Pezeshkian said at the General Assembly. "Our innocent people have been the targets of cowardly attacks and aggressions imposed upon our country. And we defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us."
He added of the United States: "Yes they did hit us, but we did not bend the knee." Toward the end of his speech, Pezeshkian called out Trump by name. The stooge had to posture that way because his political masters in Teheran speak their own language of force. "Iran has presented the US with a roadmap to end the war that echoes the two countries' June agreement — a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and groundwork for further talks — The National reported." Same nonsense, different talking head. Renounce the nukes, Iran, and stop funding those proxies, and then we can lift the sanctions and let your leaky ships sail.
"It must be understood by Mr. Trump and those who seek to bully us that we are ready for dialogue and diplomacy and negotiations without accepting the language of force," he said.
Shortly after, both U.S. and Israeli officials blasted the speech, saying that it was hypocritical for the Islamic Republic to present itself as the victims of the world.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters: "I don't know what standing Iran has to lecture anyone on human rights or the international system when they habitually violate it."
Later that day, the stooge sat for an interview with Brett Baier of the Trump-friendly Fox News, where he adopted an air of injured innocence. Body language sometimes transcends spoken language, and the man looked stressed.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian flatly denied Thursday that Tehran wants a nuclear bomb while claiming Iran is willing to submit its nuclear program for international inspection, blaming Washington for the nearly seven-month war in the Middle East and accusing it of blocking diplomacy.Right. The stooge also reiterated that his country was willing to continue dickering using the framework of the memorandum of understanding that his country's real political masters, continuing to dig up gas mains and launch them at ships, violated shortly after the virtual signatures were exchanged.
Pezeshkian also provided fresh details about a roughly seven-hour meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei that he said took place more than a month ago.
Asked point-blank during an exclusive interview on Fox News' "Special Report," "Do you want a nuclear bomb or not?" the Iranian leader firmly rejected the premise.
"Not at all. Not at all. Our martyred, esteemed supreme leader had announced several times that, from a religious decree, it is unholy. It is illegal," he told Bret Baier, referencing religious edicts issued against weapons of mass destruction.
Pezeshkian's public denial came amid long-term international scrutiny of Iran's nuclear program and its enrichment of uranium to levels well beyond those typically used for civilian nuclear power.
He also got this howler off.
Pezeshkian also broadened his criticism of Washington, blaming the U.S. for the conflict while portraying Iran's actions as defensive. That says more about the capabilities of United States weapons, irrespective of how depleted the stockpiles are, compared with the flying gas mains elements of the religious police, whether authorized by a mullah or not.
"We do not seek to kill Americans, as shown by actions, demonstrable actions. America has sought to kill Iranians," he said. "What we know is that if we're attacked, we must defend ourselves."
Pezeshkian said Iran would continue resisting Washington's campaign.Fine. Count on the useful idiots at Common Dreams and the flakiest Democrats to repeat that "Israeli-inspired war." Winter is coming, with no cooking or heating fuel. Meanwhile, back in Asia Minor, somebody speaking for the people really in charge undercut their stooge.
"This is something that has been the doing of the United States," he said. "We will keep resisting. We will find ways, and the life of our country will continue. We will remain.
"Yes, we do have economic issues, certainly. But in order to remain, we will go through any hardship and endure.
"If America thinks that they can keep sanctioning us, we have nothing to do, nor do we consider any type of American elections. If the current American government, within international legal frameworks, wishes to reach an agreement, fine. If not, before the elections or after the elections, what difference does it make for us?"
Pezeshkian repeated that Iran does not want the war to continue, while blaming Israel for helping provoke the conflict and putting responsibility on Washington to bring it to an end.
Iran will show no flexibility over its nuclear program even if the United States accepts its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which calls for steps including the lifting of a US naval blockade on Iranian ports, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Friday.Hormuz is effectively open. The stooge lamented that everybody else's oil was transiting it while his producers were limited to whatever they could load onto tank trucks and ship overland. Choke on it. Let the thing be pressed.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the waterway would remain closed until "all of Iran's conditions are met" by the United States.
Under Iran's proposal, Tehran has offered to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Within seven days, hostilities would end on all fronts, including Lebanon, the United States would lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release Iran's frozen funds and waive its oil sanctions, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Thursday.
