The idea of a gas tax holiday itself deserves mockery. Are Our Political Masters serious about using the current rise in crude oil prices to induce substitution and invention of less-fossil-dependent technologies? Or is it more political theater, using Vladimir Putin to deflect attention to incompetence closer to home while continuing to subsidize development patterns that don't pay for themselves?
