THE JOYS OF PROCTORING AN EXAM. University Diaries posts (regularly? reluctantly?) on this. Today was the first of a predicted string of warm days to be succeeded by a string of cold days, thus the classroom was a bit on the stuffy side, summer garb for the students notwithstanding (and it certainly does not run to black.) To add some excitement, the noon class slot was the one the master computer decided to shut off all the digital clocks to make the transition to Daylight Saving Time. You'd think that we'd be able to make the transition more expeditiously today than we did in the Age of Steam, with the sequence of telegraph clicks counting down to noon. But nooooo ... as if the students don't have enough to be anxious about, there's a blank clock and my time update every 10 minutes or so.
