LIFE OUTSIDE THE COLLEGE BUBBLE.

It's not all climbing walls and culturally appropriative food.  Campus food pantry reopens in fall.
The Huskies Student Food Pantry opened in March 2014 in Grace Place Campus Ministry, 401 Normal Road, when Zuidema saw there was a need on campus for student food security. After the first year of operating two times a month, 700 students were served, according to a March 2015 NIU Today article.
There are so many students making use of the pantry now, that it outgrew the space at Grace.

That's why it matters for faculty and administrators at Northern Illinois, and its counterparts around the state and the country, to understand that they are in the same business as the Ivies and the flagships.  Many of their students are striving in difficult conditions, and ought not be left with high debts and little new human capital.
