EXPENSIVE SHORTCUTS.

I suggest, more in jest and exasperation than in earnestness, that any tractor-trailer movement with a trailer longer than 28 feet be under a special movement permit.  Perhaps I should repeat the call, only with more earnestness.  "An Amtrak train carrying 110 passengers plowed straight through a semi-truck that was hauling cars and the video is wild."  Even the serious side of a satire site engages in clickbait, apparently.

Those trains are like acts of God, man. Unreal amount of power. Just plowed straight through a dang semi carrying multiple cars and didn't even slow down.

Moral of the story: Don't get your vehicle stuck in front of one of these things.

A Facebook post from the Love County, Okla., Fire Department reports the auto carrier had become high-centered on a grade crossing just north of the Texas-Oklahoma state line when it was struck by the train at about 7 p.m. The fire department reported five passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-critical injuries, but an Amtrak statement said the figure was four passengers. The driver of the truck was not injured.

"Become high-centered" means "took a shortcut over a steeply-graded level crossing, and the underframe of the trailer grounded on the rails." In a really bad case of getting high-centered, the rear wheels of the trailer are up in the air.  The driver had the good sense to attempt to flag down the train, and it's possible that camera footage is from law enforcement or a towing company on the scene.

It's likely, though, that the crossing in question was not on a designated truck route.
