SIXTY YEARS AGO. Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. (Turn on your speakers before clicking some of the links) My parents, somewhat unaccountably, purchased the 33 1/3 LP. I later bought it in cassette form. Great stuff. It transpires that Mr. Kite was a genuine circus performer, the song is a setting of a very old circus poster, and impresario Pablo Fanques might have been the first black entrepreneur to run a circus. And there was a genuine news item about holes being uncovered in Blackburn, Lancashire.
