ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING. With the track renewal program finished in DeKalb County, the Union Pacific is again using both tracks over Creston Hill. For once, I was doing some trainspotting when the C&NW heritage unit showed up, here at Rochelle. Look closely at the track behind the train. New ribbon rail is placed for the next phase of the renewal campaign, starting 16 June.

The heritage unit is heading a mixed-up freight consist. Behind it, not quite yellow-for-yellow, is an ethanol train.

The trainspotter grapevine was working quite well, as lots of local enthusiasts got the word about the heritage unit on the east end in daylight.

The Burlington also got in the act. Here two intermodal trains meet on the two main tracks through town.
