I suspect Aaron Rodgers's hard count works as well as it does because it's often the same cadence, with a different snap count.  Run the play on two a few times, then run it on three, and the too clever by half defender is in the neutral zone and the ball is out with the intention of a long gainer.  It helps that the offensive line has had some practice.
